Etherpad acquired by Google. Ha ha ha! The most cool collaborative real-time thing on the Internet that wasn’t Google has been acquired by Google. With Google Wave, the writing was on the wall. Etherpad at the moment is way cooler and more useful than Etherpad, but that will change. If you can’t beat them, join them.
Also, the underlying AppJet Web Framework will be open sourced, giving us a real-time comet engine. I hope it’s lightweight, and I hope I like the server technologies it’s based on. All this played out Dec 5, so I’m a bit late in noticing it, but it’s big. AppJet and Etherpad is one of those too-cool-to-be-true insider technologies, and it caused quite a flack when they announced they were closing shop.
