Sony just announced their “first” netbook, which is funny, because I thought I’ve been using a Sony netbook for awhile now, in the form of the Sony VAIO VGN-P530H. Apparently, it’s a Lifestyle PC, and not a netbook—probably due to the $1000 pricetag, which must keep it out of the sub-$500 netbook category. Whatever. I’m enjoying the Vaio, though the locked-in Verizon cellmodem service is highway robbery. And I miss the iPhone touchscreen user interface. The market is primed for a sub-$500 device with a 10-inch screen that works a lot like an iPhone (instant-on, etc.), with cheap broadband access. Google Chrome OS on something? Maybe the TechCrunch pad?
