Interesting news on the vanity-search front. Google profiles, which have previously only been featured at the very bottom of the results page are now getting big thumbnails in the middle of the page. This may just be an experiment, but if it sticks, it’s pretty big news on the “Battle of the Profiles” between Google and Facebook. Whereas Facebook just got to more search-friendly and easier-to-give-out URLs, Google integrated the well-structured data right into results just like any other universal search datatype (like video, news, etc.). Identities being a distinct and featured datatype within Google is potentially very big.
