Just signed up for Google Apps Script. This has my name all over it. It’s actually a complete alternative to a project that I deemed necessary for my career. If it’s as powerful as I think it may be, I just may become a avid consumer and advocate of the full Google Suite way of doing business. A feature doesn’t exist that you need? No problem. Program it in JavaScript and integrate it through whatever hooks the apps provide. Currently, it appears to be customizable functions through Google Spreadsheets. The key question here is whether the JavaScript that you write, which happens to execute Google server-side, can make calls out to Web services from other sites, such as Yahoo, Twitter, Facebook or other. Eerily cool levels of integration are about to become possible, where instead of a dashboard, you’ve got the Google office suite. Can’t wait to get that confirmation email!
