Commodore’s making a comeback, and I’m hoping it gets interwoven with the FOSS movement. Here’s a recent article I wrote on the topic. http://mikelev.in/2011/07/jack-meet-linus-linus-jack/
I very much like the default purple Ubuntu background, but I found myself desiring just a bit of Commodore branding on my desktop. So, as part of my attempted embracing of FOSS, I installed GIMP, Googled up a Commodore logo (in SVN!), added it as a layer and set opacity. Very subtle and satisfying.
It’s always a good reminder how things stand with the mega-players online to perform this Google trends-for-websites search. Of course, Google doesn’t show itself.
@CommodoreUSA Here is my Commodore 64x unboxing video, including Ubuntu 11.04 install and clicky key comparison.
Here’s my new Commodore 64 set up at the office as my main work machine. Dual monitor. Ubuntu 11.04. Mic & headphones for Google Hangout (working). MacBook Air next to it, so I now officially work on Apple and Commodore equipment. And in either case, my move to *nix is complete. How cool is that?
I saw an R.I.P. post today on Google+, and here was my response.
What you’re missing is that Google+ is always there, always working, always flowing in and around you making using it almost transparent. Google+ lives in the world that you live in during day-to-day work, Googling, doing email, etc. Conversely, Facebook feels like going somewhere. It’s a bizarro parallel universe on the Internet, that makes you feel naughty for using it during work hours, and causes fatigue. Google+ is very different from Orkut or Wave, because it lives on a very special URL… www.google.com
